Hi guys. I hope I've posted this in the right place as I'm a newbie here. Got an ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 MB which has worked fine for about 5 years. Yesterday I turned the PC on and it wouldn't boot. Went into BIOS and none of the SATA ports are recognised. Took the SSD out, put it into another PC and it's fine. I've never heard of all SATA's dying before. Tried the SSD in all of them but nothing. I'm guessing that, if the chipset has died, it's time for a new MB. Any thoughts?

Solution
All sata ports dying - this is unusual.
More likely would be a problem with PSU not supplying correct voltages to drives connected.

Anyway - try a different PSU. Do not use modular cables from a different PSU! This can kill your drives.

If PSU is not the problem and indeed all sata ports have died, then you can use PCIE sata controller card and connect your drives to it (your board has PCI slots also, so you can use PCI sata controller card too).

Yeah that is a dead motherboard for sure.... you could try and keep it running by installing a PCIe sata card, but chances are the board will die completely in the long run.

Thanks for that. Annoyingly I had the same idea of buying a PCI SATA card which arrived this morning, but it needs drivers and as I can't boot up the PC I can't install them!

I'll try and swap the PCU for another, but it's odd that the MB has run fine with that PCU since I've had it
