Sata or sata 3?

I bought this drive...

Can I use a sata 3 cable to hook it up or just sata?

For an optical drive, it won't matter.

No it is going to be exactly the same speed. The cable is just a conduit and all sata cables pretty much support all std's it is the motherboard controller that governs the speed.
