Recently I've built a new gaming rig with an MSI B550 Tomahawk motherboard and none of my hard drives or SSDs show up beside the boot drive, I've searched all over the internet for possible solutions and I just can't find one, all the hard drives and the brand new SSD works and can be seen if I use an external caddy.

My motherboard is set to ACHI with hotplug enabled, however looking in the device manager I do have a random "Serial ATA Controller" listed in "Other Devices"

full system spec: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BhR6cb
Motherboard BIOS: AMI BIOS7C91vAE
Chipset driver: AMD Chipset Driver5.01.29.2026
OS: Windows 10 Home

Is this a fresh installation of Windows? If so, did you load install the AMD chipset driver from the website? Also, what does the Disk Management screen say; do any drives appear there and need to have drive letters assigned to them?

Yes it is a fresh install, yes I installed the AMD chipset drivers, Disk Management only shows my boot drive and the external drive I'm currently using to store my games on.

What is this external caddy you refer to and how is it connected to the motherboard? Would it be possible that the caddy's connection is interfering with the motherboard and if you disconnect the caddy the motherboard would work? Would it be possible to boot your computer with an operating system other than windows like a linux distro on a usb stick to see if that works and if its definitely a hardware problem?

External USB bay for SATA HDD/SSD's, only used it to verify that the drives worked.

I am not that technologically inclined to know how to do that
