Question Sata SSD over NVMe M.2 for gaming?

So I've been looking this up for some time now and can't seem to come to a definite conclusion about it, are there major differences when it comes to gaming? I recently played Wukong on my HDD and loading times were hell, as well as stutters when loading new areas. So, I want to get an SSD, but SATA would be preferred (financially more fitting too) since I already have a 256gb NVMe for my OS. Any advice? Should I replace my NVMe with a bigger one or just get a SATA SSD?

the hardware latency may or may not be caused by the drive. Usually the vido driver or the ram is more of the suspect, but it depends on the build of the system and OS.

So for a better analysis, please edit your post to include the system.

If you are going the lest expensive route, SSD would be your wise choice. In real world, you would be hard pressed to tell the difference in speed. Use Benchmarks doing that kind of messing around. My Samsung 990Pro's NVMe benches at ~7400 MB/s read. Corsiar SATA, ~550MB/s. I can't discern between the difference without putting a huge load on the SSD.

Will your mobo accept a second m.2?

If so then flip a coin/shop price.......m.2/2.5 ssd.
 
Well, arbitrarily changing the hard drive without knowing what is really causing the problem is just plain guessing. As a lot of different things can cause it, including OS settings. But there is a tool to see what is causing latency in the system. I've used this before and it works really good solving it. Btw, I doubt changing the hard drive is going to solve the issue. Download the DPC Latency Checker and find out what hardware or OS setting is causing it.

in terms of does gaming over a ssd vs a nvme there can be major diffrences depends on the game.

there's a few but you see less gains after 3.500 read and right speeds. just because the games haven't caught up yet to the fastest nvmes on the market.

ssd vs nvme i saw textures load in faster and my 1 percent lows increase not so much the overall framerate.

it really depends on the game though

i find mmos benefit from it.
and resolution matters with higher textures etc.

sata ssd are still quick enough for most games.

what is your motherboard ?.
 
Best results with fast drives is when OS and programs/games are installed on same disk.
HDD to SATA SSD is greatest improvement, SATA to fast NVMe much less but possibly visible in certain circumstances. Reading and writing speeds also mean less and shorter taxation to rest of system. "Stronger" PCs are less impacted. M.2 SSDs have other advantages over SATA, no cables for instance, less chance for those to cause trouble. No space used in the case. There is practicaly no price difference.
