I just upgraded my graphics card and gave my old HD 7770 to my brother. The problem is that there is no spare plug from PSU to power it.
The only alternative i can find (aside from the obvious new PSU) is a 15 pin SATA male to 4 pin adapter.
Will this work?
Would it cause any major problems?
Is there another alternative? (aside from the obvious new PSU)
The PSU is 400w, so power isn't an issue.
Would appreciate any advice.

Definitely a terrible solution. Even if there is a sata to PCIe adapters you should never power your gpu like that because it will burn out the socket and ruin your mobo. The other alternative is to buy a Molex to 6 Pin PCIe adapter from Startech. They are the only ones I know of that makes these peripherals that are usually hard to find. http://ca.startech.com/Cables/Computer-Power/Internal/LP4-to-6-pin-PCI-Express-Video-Card-Power-Adapter~LP4PCIEXADAP

Best solution, buy a new power supply. Save yourself from the headache of trying to figure out alternative power solutions. A better PSU will be beneficial for future upgrades. Corsair CX600W sells for $60 on newegg.
