SATA vs eSATA First Time Building A PC

Whats the difference between SATA and eSATA. Because my motherboard has 5 SATA 6gb/s and 1 eSATA 6gb/s. MY case has 1 eSATA front panel, will this effect me and how will it affect me?

SATA = internal connection
eSATA = external SATA connection

Use the eSATA only to connect a drive that lives outside the box.
