The following should also be of great info for thousands of other users:

Can a SATA3 (6Gb/s) Hard Drive be set to operate at the 1.5Gb/s data rate, as it was possible with SATA2 (3Gb/s) drives?
In my case a jumper was required in the latter limiting the data rate to 1.5Gb/s.
Not much information is available regards SATA3 (-not even Seagate Sites/Manuals)

Now i've got a SEAGATE ST1000DM003 which isnt being detected with or without a jumper, it has been partitioned & formatted via a SATA to USB interface, and works perfectly well so the HD shouldn't be faulty i guess.

My Mobo is (quite old) P5VD1-X but SATA2 drives all worked well (in fact I also had a WesternDigital 1TB HD with jumper), so it's not a capacity issue here.

Much Appreciated,
Nich ;)
