Satellite C55D-A dim after sleep. On boot-up, the screen is normal brightness. Once the machine sleeps, the screen will be very dim, virtually unreadable. External monitor ok. Brightness keys don't help. Changing internal/external screen modes (extend, duplicate, etc.) no help. Only fix so far is reboot.

Hi,

It may be a case of a bad display if it's working normal with an external display as you mentioned. Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help.
- Start by running Windows Update, make sure all important updates are installed.
- Next is to do a clean install of the graphic card driver.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the graphics driver.
- Open Programs and Features and uninstall anything related to your graphics card.
- Download and install the latest driver from the manufacturers site.
- Reboot your laptop and see if the same problem will persist.
- If all these will not work you may need to replace the display already it could be the backlight which is going bad already.
