Saving on whole system and using it on GPU. Does it make sense?

Hello!

TL;DR:

I'm building a complete new system and I want to know if saving on other components -such as CPU and MOBO- and using that money on the GPU makes sense.

Budget: ~ $1.3k.
Intention: development and mostly gaming, I do want to play on better graphics.
1080p ~ 1440p. Main concern is on 1080p.

What I have in mind:

Mobo: GIGABYTE B360
CPU: I5 8400
GPU: GTX 1070 TI maybe 1080, the budget would go up a little bit
RAM: 16 GB
PSU: 650w
SSD: 240GB
HD: Same
Case: Some Nzxt - accept suggestions
Cooler: Air - accept suggestion

Long story:

I'm a developer and I'm basically buying a new PC, the one I have right now is the following:

Mobo: ASUS P8H61-M LX
CPU: I5 2500k
GPU: AMD R7 260x
RAM: 8 GB
PSU: 450W
SSD: None
HD: 1 TB

It's a little bit old but good enough for development - fails sometimes for VMs, but AWS C9 killed that need -, but when it comes for gaming I'm starting to suffer a little bit.

The idea of saving on other components came from the fact that I'll be moving overseas soon, but this 'soon' might be more than a whole year, and right now I kind of want this upgrade, as I play a lot of games. These components would not go to waste as I could bring the GPU with me and use the other components as an upgrade for a friend.

I accept all kinds of suggestions and ideas! Thank you!

Solution
As an example, I run on 1440p/high in bf1 and average >90fps. Given your pixel count is less than 1440p, that ti will crush anything you run on it. Not a bad thing tho, would have longer legs before needing replaced.

I recommend the psu in my sig - 659w seasonic. Freakin great unit.

With a 2500k I wouldn't go further than a gtx 1060 6gb or rx 480/580.

Yes, but I'm also changing the CPU and MOBO:

Oh really?

When working I have two screens, one is 1600x900 and the main (also for gaming) is 2500x1080 Ulta Wide. Reresh rate is 60hz :(

What do you recommend on a PSU?

Okay! On the Mobo and CPU, do you think it's okay?

Any last recomendation on cooling?

Not that familiar with B/H mobos but believe as long as it has the connectivity/sound you’re after it should be fine with locked cpu.

The Cryorig H7 or Gammax 400 will be fine for inexpensive but effective cooling.

Try to get at least 2666 ram. Higher is (slightly) better.
