Hello, I just bought this: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB Single DDR3 1600 MT/s PC3-12800 CL9 1.5V UDIMM 240-Pin Memory (BLS8G3D1609DS1S00). It was off of Amazon. Anyways, Intel extreme utility says I have 4 GB of memory after I installed 1 stick of 8 GB. Any idea why? It's seated in correctly. Also, I overclocked it to 1866 Mhz, if that might be the cause of something.

Yes, I had to replace my home edition that was broken due to a "significant hardware change." Are you saying that may be why..?

Hi

What does BIOS say about RAM?

remove over clock and use CPU-Z to see what it reports about the memory
[size & specification]

Try a different slot (sometimes with one RAM you have to use a specific slot)

Is this RAM recomended for your motherboard by Crucial or the motherboard manufacturers web sites

being DDR-3 1600 is not enough to guarantee compatibility with all motherboards with DDR-3 slots

If ram slot has dust in it after long use it may prevent all 240 pins on RAM making contact

Its as simple as this, if you go to system information in windows.
And it only displays 4gb of system memory detected then you are running a 32 bit version of windows.

Look at installed physical memory in system information of windows.= 4Gb
It may in fact be quoted as less say 3.25Gb
Coryhatcher.

It means you are going to have to buy a 64 bit version of windows os to be able to utilize the 8gb memory stick with windows.

Hello, I did dial it back and CPU Z says 4 GB as well. Bios is the same way. I haven't used the mother board for long and it's just ballistix so it should work.

Well, my previous RAM was working. I dont have it anymore, though, but I had it yesterday, and I could use 8 GB. Also, while it is an illegitimate copy, it still says 64 Bit.

I used to have legit Windows 10 home, but it became inactivated when I put my hard drive in a different computer, so I found an illegitimate copy and downlaoded. its 64 bit enterprise

Yes, but everything was still normal before I changed RAM. And to clear that up, I am now running a CX 500

Cory, you have no idea what you bought: besides being illegitimate, it's apparently a 32 bit OS on top of that. You should ditch it immediately, because it's not trustworthy and likely contains a big dose of spyware.
