Says I only have 4GB of RAM but I have 8GB

Hi I just looked at my system settings and it says I have this much virtual memory what does that mean? I bought the PC off Ebay a while ago and they told me it has 8gb of ram and I have only been able to use 4gb of ram is this the reason why?

The system only recognizes 4GB of physical memory. The virtual memory number doesn't count, since it includes the pagefile on the HDD which is pretty slow.

That only 4GB of physical memory are recognize can have several reasons:

1. You're running 32-bit Windows. The 32-bit version can't use more than 4GB of RAM.
2. 4GB of the 8GB are defective and are thus disabled.
3. You only have 4GB of physical memory and got scammed.

Check in BIOS. Even 32bit windows should show 8GB physical memory installed but only 3.xx GB usable.

I think you're right on #3 haha just went into CPU Z and says both ram sticks are working but it's only 4GB 🙁

Yep, that's a 2GB module. There are no 8GB in that system if the second stick is the same.
