just a quick question ...
yesterday night i was installing my sb live 5.1 soundcard and my asus 8200 de luxe graphics card .. when i then booted again i got an irq conflict with the soundcard and the monitor went into some kind of sleep mode after it got to windows (the bootup screen was shown before falling to sleep :))

i have the asus v7 266 mobo which has 5 pci slots.
i have 3 pci devices : soundcard, tv-card, ethernet card

i am wondering which pci slot i can best use for which card.

the irq table shows :

INT- A B C D

pci1 - - - s
pci2 s - - -
pci3 - s - -
pci4 - - u -
pci5 - - - s
agpp s s - -

(s = shared, u = used)
(the onboard devices which use the rest of the irqs in this table are disabled in the bios or with jumpers)
(INT- A B C D)
(acr. s - - -)
(audi - s - -)
(usb. - - - s)

can anyone help me or tell me about their experiences with this ?

Go into Your BIOS, and set reserve IRQ for diplay device and USB. Also, make sure that you have the soundacrd in PCI slot #3. This should solve your IRQ problems.

If it works for you then don't fix it.

I'd also avoid slots that use IRQ sharing. Slot 1 usually shares with the AGP slot, and slots 4 and 5 often share. Check your motherboard's guide to find out which slots are suitable.

I originally had an SB Live 5.1 with my A7M266 motherboard, but couldn't get it to work in any slot. Eventually gave up and swapped it for a Sonic Fury.

the manual gives :

INT- A B C D

pci1 - - - s
pci2 s - - -
pci3 - s - -
pci4 - - u -
pci5 - - - s
agpp s s - -

(s = shared, u = used)
(the onboard devices which use the rest of the irqs in this table are disabled in the bios or with jumpers)
(INT- A B C D)
(acr. s - - -)
(audi - s - -)
(usb. - - - s)

since the agp shares 1 and 2 ... and i have pci slots in use i have to use 1 shared :(
which would you suggest ?
i think i will put the sb live 5.1 in pci 4 (although some people say i should put it in pci 3)
my other pci cards are a networking card and a tv card
