Hello,

I've been tasked with building a new server to replace a VM running Exchange 2010 on Windows Server 2008 x64. I personally have tried to get them to purchase a fully built server that is under warranty, but they will not take my recommendation and would like me to build one for under $2k. They had a previous IT who built two servers and now they think it is the way to go everytime. I'll stop my rant though and ask what you think about my components list:

SUPERMICRO MBD-X9SCM-F-O Micro ATX Server Motherboard $199.99
SUPERMICRO CSE-825TQ-R700LPB Black 2U Rackmount Server Case $599.99
Intel Xeon E3-1230 V2 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 69W Quad-Core Server Processor $244.99
3ware 9650SE-4LPML KIT PCI Express Lanes: 4 SATA II (3.0Gb/s) Controller Card $319.99
4 x SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 1TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive $339.96
Kingston 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM Server Memory w/TS Model KVR1333D3E9SK4/16G $104.99
SAMSUNG 8X Slim Internal DVD Burner, OEM Package Without Software Black SATA Model SN-208BB - OEM $19.99
Total - $1829.90

Any problems with this build?

Thanks,

Rob

Going from VM to physical is a step backwards surely, unless whoever built the VM infrastructure was completely clueless.
