I ordered an RTX 4090 from Amazon but when I received it the box contained a Radeon 7900 XTX.

I paid 1600 for rtx 4090 and got that 7900 instead, so I sent it back today.

They said once they received it they will give me a refund.
It may take 15 to 30 days.

Wtf just happened, is this some sort joke?

Similar happened to me last month where I purchased a 4080 Super. The card, box, serial numbers were all legit - but installing it showed it to be a 4070 Ti. The seller was Amazon, not third party.

I took photos of everything, GPU-z, box, etc - and it did take 30 days for the refund but at least it happened.

By looking at the seller store and there not even selling radeon 7900 xtx looks like someone has bought 4090 and swapped it with radeon 7900 xtx
What seller store? It clearly says Dispatches from Amazon, Sold by Amazon. Amazon is the seller.

The problem is that Amazon has a no questions asked return policy. You could take the video card out of the box, put a brick in it's place, and Amazon would still accept the return. You wouldn't believe the things that turn up on Amazon return pallets that people buy for potential resale.
