I found one physically and removed it but haven’t found the other after physically searching two floors in an office building. The VoIP phone installers deny it. The ad kiosk company denies it. They’re the only two with access to the LAN switch other than me.

I need a scanner. I guess since Powerlines use Home Plug 1.0, V1 or V2 protocol, a scanner should probe for devices using these.

NetGear offers a free utilty to detect its own models (models 500 and lower). But I want to scan for any brand and model.

Is there such a scanner available?

Ok, I'm answering my own post.

I downloaded free HomePlug protocol scanning utilities from some common Powerline manufacturers (NetGear and TrendNet). Such utilities scan for devices using some version(s) of the HomePlug protocol to look for their own devices, but hopefully they'll detect and report other manufacturers' devices. Just in case, I'll eventually try utilities from other manufacturers to see if results vary, i.e., if one manufacturer's software utility doesn't detect another brand's Powerline device.

The only issue might be is scanning for multiple HomePlug protocol versions: 1.0, AV, AV2 and Green PHY (subset of AV). Because of this, I'll try older utilities for older products using 1.0 just in case the newest utilities...

So far, these are the two utilities I'll try onsite later this week:
