Question Scanner found in terminal and in simplescan, but doesn't work for xsane in simplescan or gimp, says “unable to connect to scanner” ?

Update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information.

How old is the printer? USB connection to host computer - correct?

Any other noted USB device problems? Test printing/scanning on another known working USB port.

Have you tried another known working USB cable between host computer and printer?

Have you tried reinstalling the HP drivers and scanning software?

Manually download drivers and software via HP's website, reinstall, and reconfigure.

  2. Yes, USB.

  1. No other problems. Printing works fine. Different port makes no difference to problem (scanning only is problem)
  2. Scanner works in Windoze from same computer, cable, port, printer/scanner

1) Yes, reinstalled hplip, no improvement.

Open Reliability History. Take a close at the error codes, warnings, and informational events to date via the timeline format.

Attempt to do a couple of scans.

Then look for any additional Reliability History errors that were logged with respect to any failed scan attempts.
