Scanner not working

Hello,
my HP5300 has always worked fine... until now.
Can print, but can't scan anymore: computer gets stuck and there's no way to exit it but by closing the program with task manager. I've checked everything but apparently everything is fine and connected well. Don't know what to do...

Uninstall the HP software, re-install with the latest one from HPs support site.
