scanner recommendation

am looking for a scanner that allows converting scanned documents to
PDF files (a must!) and then sent as email.
all the above tasks could be done by hitting a couple of buttons on
the scanner
without having to turn on the computer and using special computer
software.

this way, i can quickly scan my documents and have the documents sent
out without
the need to turn on my computer.

my sister office uses one of these scanners like a copy machine. she
feeds the documents in and
the documents are scanned and emailed out. this scanner is
high-capacity so it's very expensive.

i am hoping to send around 1000 dollars for this type of scanner.

thank you in advance.

For $1000 or less you want the scanner to do it all, and NOT be connected to
any computer? Your sister's network copier ($$$) has a pc internally that
does it all. What you want does not exist for the price.

As has already been said, this doesn't exist.

However if you settle for needing a PC to do this, then my company sells a
software that does this about as well as can be done.

Good luck finding one of those cheap on Ebay!

The scanner is going to need to be attached to some kind of PC with
disk to hold the software and store the scan, PDF conversion software
(probably a commercial product for which you will pay a premium), a
LAN connection and software for it and your PC so that you can
download email addresses, a router on your LAN or an internet
connection for sending email, probably a fax modem for customers who
don't want email and would rather get faxes, and a printer for
customers who don't want faxes and would rather get snail mail.

You can roll your own using a $100 scanner with included software that
will produce graphic files; you can download free software (including
a Windows printer driver) to create PDF files; and your own effort to
create an email, add the attachment, and send it to your distribution
list.

One good way to really annoy customers is to send them massive emails,
that take ages to download, with an attached one or two page document,
filled with useless gigantic graphics, containing some marketer's
latest "thought", that he can just stick on the scanner and email to
all his customers at his whim.
Nothing like having your customers consider you an annoying spammer!

You really need to compress your graphics, layout your documents
carefully, and monitor the sizes of the documents and emails you send
out to your customers, so that your customers don't just add your
email address to their list of junk emailers.

Unless of course, you *are* a junk emailer?
In which case the foregoing won't worry you!

You go, Brian!

What this Guy wants is a no-brain solution. Probably because he has no
brains.

If I were to send out notices to a bunch of people via Email I would
generate the page to be sent with an HTML editor then paste into the email
to send.

As with this newsgroup, I would send the email out in plain text.
I also have a nasty tendency to send attachments out in plain text,
just calling them .doc or .xls to satisfy those who need to think
they're getting MS proprietary document formats. ;^>

Well, it's not a scanner, but PaperPort 9 Deluxe will do this for you, but
would take more than pushing a couple of buttons. Check the ScanSoft website
for the specifications/description.
