Hello, I am currently experiencing a problem with my E: drive. Whenever I start up my PC I get Scanning and Repairing drive E:. It stops at 35% and doesnt change, I've left it overnight and it is still on 35% in the morning. If I unplug my E drive my PC works fine. I have 3 drives, my E drive which is an internal 1tb HDD. 1tb USB HDD (F:) and internal 256gb SSD (C:) with operating system. I can't get past this error message and still use my E:. Is it possible or is the HDD dead?

Sorry, How do I do that?

What do you want to do with the E: drive? If you want to use it, the best way to repair the file system on that drive, but you can't access it. So if this a drive with no OS on it there is no way you can access it passed that error msgs. So do you have a Bootable media e.g. DVD/USB? if so unplug the other HDD's leaving the only HDD in question, format it with the media, and you can use it again. If you want you can have an OS on it or leave it empty for storage. Plug all the HDD's back and it should work.

Once the HDD is ready for use check it's health with the manufacturers diagnosis tool, it would help you figure out the condition about the drive.

Alright, so unplug my 2 other drives and have just the E:. then install windows on it off disk. Then what will happen if I want to use my SSD as OS when I plug it back in? Does the E: overwrite it?

I don't believe lonewolf7 is telling you that you have to install the OS on drive E:, it is merely an option. The main point is formatting the drive via the bootable media. You can reconnect the other drives once you have successfully formatted drive E: and continue to boot from your SSD drive.

I think kenrivers is right. Let windows format the drive at the beginning of windows install. Then after the format, quit the install, reinstall the ssd back into the port it was booting from as well as your HDD in another port and see if you can use/access it.

I did that then when I start my PC back up its recognized by bios but when I'm in windows its not recognized. I need to create a new volume or something don't I? I Can't remember or find how to do that. It's not under disk management (Probably hidden I presume)
