Scariest PC Games Currently available?

are these actually scary/any good/worth getting?

Amnesia: The Dark Descent has a definite "Oh dear lord save me" factor to it. It's a single player game where you don't have any means to protect yourself, have a limited light source, and are to navigate a castle/manor complex while avoiding aberrations.

System Shock 2, though I have never played it, I know is considered a classic and have never heard any bad things about it. I can't speak for the rest.

that's the thing, is it too old to be scary/relevant anymore

same for doom 3, good at the time, but it's had its day now

Thief 3: Deadly Shadows had some scary moments. I guess it comes down to "are you scared easily?" Some of these games (Amnesia, especially) are better played in a dark, quiet environment.
