Scarlet 2i2 stops recording audio

I have been struggling with this ever since I got the Scarlet 2i2 audio interface. I have the AKG P420 microphone. Basically the problem is that when ever I'm on a skype call, recording audio/video, or doing anything that uses my mic with any application it will work lovely but then at some random point it will just stop recording and the only way to get it to pick up the mic again is to go to the application I'm using at the time, change it take input from my headset mic and then change it back to the scarlet 2i2 line 1. All cables are connected properly and I have the latest drivers installed. I am on Windows 7, though I also have the same problem on Windows 10.

I have yet to find a solution online that doesn't tell me to buy a new interface.

This is driving me nuts so please if anyone can help me that would be awesome!

That has nothing to do with my problem. I am not using scarlett 2i2 as playback, I am having issues recording. And even if I was using playback I already have my milliseconds has high as they can get as suggested in that reddit post. Thanks anyway though
