schannel 36884

I recently built a new system but when gaming I am having this issue. The game works perfectly then the screen freezes, I can still hear the audio and have to alt tab to get out of the game. When I look at the event viewer, the error I am constantly seeing is this, schannel 36884. Ive tried reading up about it but am having trouble fully understanding it and am unable to fix. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

You could try the fix suggested here where you edit registry, but follow steps in blue box to back it up 1st

I don't think the event is causing errors though. Windows would create a BSOD if it was to blame.

CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
MB - Gigabyte X570 I AORUS PRO WIFI (bios F36c)
Ram - 16gb Kingston
Storage - 3 x 500gb ssd
GPU - 3060 TI

What PSU?
I doubt display is cause.

anything show in reliability history?

3 more BIOS since your current one - https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X570-I-AORUS-PRO-WIFI-rev-10/support#support-dl-bios

could try updating chipset drivers - https://www.amd.com/en/support/chipsets/amd-socket-am4/x570

Sorry, new system is
Ryzen 7700X
Asus rog strix x650e-f gaming wifi
Seasonic Focus +gold 750w
3060ti
2x16gb 6000hz Ram

Its been working fine for a couple of weeks, it only does this if the game is online. everything is up to date, bios, drivers etc.

there I go believing your sig was right. Maybe you should update it :)

so if you alt tab, does PC work still or do you need to restart to get a picture?

b650-e exists... x650 was a new one on me.

do you use wifi or ethernet?
neither driver on here is really new - https://rog.asus.com/au/motherboard...-b650e-f-gaming-wifi-model/helpdesk_download/
I know, yet to update my sig, sorry.. The PC still works 50/50, sometimes I alt tab out the game ok, other times I have to restart. I use WIFI but have had no other issues with the system and funnily enough, I dont have an issue with Apex Legends but playing Callista Protocol and CoD modern warfare, Im getting the freezing, every 10mins or so, game just bricks. I will try that method above after Ive read up some more about it and confident enough to do it.

I don't like problems that only happen sometimes.

could be background processes

Try a clean boot and see if it changes anything - make sure to read instructions and make sure NOT to disable any microsoft services or windows won't load right - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

It doesn’t delete anything, it just stops non Microsoft programs running with start. Easy to reverse.

if clean boot fixes it, it shows its likely a startup program. You should, over a number of startups. restart the programs you stopped to isolate the one that is to blame.

I wonder if its an Asus program

I havnt tried the clean boot method yet, (havnt had adequate time,) but every game I play now is crashing. Ive scanned my system for malware, ive done a system file checker scan, ive scanned the registry, Ive even done a ''reset this pc'' and a new install of windows 11.

what speed is the ram running at?

if it survives a reinstall its not likely to be a driver unless the motherboard installed something - latest Asus boards auto install Armory Crate software on 1st restart after an install. Can be turned off in bios

I don't think its software. BUt I can't be sure. Wondering where to start.

PSU not obvious place to start, Seasonic makes it a hard place to start as they rarely to blame.
not ram as you not getting BSOD or freezes. Just crashes.
It doesn't sound like GPU as it works if you alt tab... thats not how GPU driver errors work, they all or nothing.
NO real tests for a motherboard.
Only real test for AMD CPU is Prime 95. It could be a rounding error, maybe... can't tell without running test and it can take over a day.

curious...
search for System Info application
when it opens, click the + next to Software Environment in left hand column
then click on Windows Error Reporting
with a new install and new PC, it should take long to populate
Now the dates may not make any sense as its not in date order, its alphanumerical.
Two types of errors can show here:
Application
Windows Error Reporting

Just curious if you getting any Pre radar crashes. They happen when windows guesses a program is using too much memory and closes the program as a precaution.

I was running my RAM with the EXPO setting at 6000Hz and I was also using a negative offset with curve optimizer but Ive gone into BIOS and loaded optimized settings now, I wonder if these are causing the issues? I will try a game in a bit and see how it goes. I followed the instructions you gave about system info, but to be truthful, I dont know what I am looking at?

see if ram helps before i explain system info. It just shows errors that have occured.
Yeah, looks like it was the RAM. Since running it at 4800Hz, have not had an issue. There are 3 EXPO profiles in the BIOS and it has crashed with every one. (but only when gaming.) There is 1 newer BIOS update on my motherboards support page but it doesnt say anything about memory improvements so I'll stay on this one for now. Has pissed me off a bit seeming as this set of RAM was on the motherboards compatibility list and that I cant run it at 6000Hz. Anyways, thanks for the info and help!
