Hi, my computer freezed, gave buzzing sound and restarted on its own. So I opened the CPU for cleaning dust. While i was cleaning the heat sink I scraped off thermal paste off the processor. Now I searched the internet and got to know how important thermal paste is. Please suggest me what to do. And what thermal paste should i apply on it. Reply soon

Solution
i like the Arctic Cooling MX-4 its the best one in my option just clean the cpu+ the socket of all old thermal paste, and then apply the new one on the cpu socket in the middle just a little pea size and put on the cpu back on, remember more is not better so dont put too much, there are alot of different ways to applay thermal paste but the pea size in middle is the best one in my option, if you are unsure you can watch some youtube videos on how to do it.

Pea size may be a bit much, you want a fairly thin coating and a pea (at least in the size I picture them) is too much. Maybe a dried pea like you'd use for pea soup but not a fresh large one :) You'd want to spread it a bit around, just squishing it will leave it un-even. I just use my fingers to spread it.

Make sure you get all of the old heat compound off the CPU as well as the heatsink, just don't scratch them up. The heatsink is usually very well polished for a reason. If you scratched it, you'd want to get a very smooth sandpaper to smooth it a bit, then go over it with a metal polish.

Hey thanks alot for replying :)
I reapplied the thermal paste as you said. Now the idle temperature of CPU dropped to 25-27 deg celsius from 40. Is this temperature okay?

Plus please tell what should I keep CPU warning temperature in the BIOS settings?
Its intel i5-3330 3-3.2 GHz processor.

Yes that great idle temp. I would put warning temp of 80'c
