Screen capture hardware/software without installing

I am looking for a screen capture device that could either be hardware that you install inline with the display cable to capture screen shots/record video on the device itself. Or some sort of screen capture software that can run from a USB device and save to itself. Does anyone know of any hardware or software that could accomplish this?
