I have installed my drivers and I tried a different monitor. My screen is just not fitting the monitor. Its not giving me any black bars. I've tried resolutions and everything else. Its frustrating.

AMD build
AMD A10-7850K Kaveri 3.7GHz
MSI R9 270X Gaming 2G Radeon
MSI A88Z-G45 Gaming

In catalyst control center settings look for scaling options where you should find underscan/overscan options and adjust accordingly. In mine it is under "MY DIGITAL FLAT-PANELS"

Did you just upgrade or something? New build?

Are you talking just a border around the whole screen? I ask because you say not black bars, so assuming a border all around?

Anyway set it to your proper res, hz for your monitor and check the scaling box to move slider if needed. The check box says "use the scaling values instead of the customized settings when desktop resolution does not match your DFP resoltuion."

Glad I type 60wpm 😉

By the way: What monitor model? What cable type you using (hdmi etc)? Though you're likely fixed now anyway, but if not we need to know more.

Its a new build, my first actually. I went to AMD Catalyst Control Center. I don't see the area that you are asking me to search for. I went to Common Display Tasks and clicked Detect Displays and I clicked it. It exited the AMD Catalyst Control Center and did nothing but send me back to the desktop. The issue is my border yes. No black bars, my screen is just stretched passed the monitors length.

I have a Polaroid 22". I am using a Monster brand HDMI cable.

Could I have installed the drivers wrong for the motherboard? I used the CD that came with the motherboard? I will take a screenshot.

How to do it 😉 pictures and all. That is what I see on mine also. Once you have clicked my digital panels choose the scaling options on the left and you should see the box and the slider as noted in the article.

Edit: Then again I can get to it from standard also (or adv view which you're already in), by hitting MORE in Desktops & Displays in the top box. My Digital panels then shows up also. So maybe something with your HDTV can't do this at all so you don't see my digital panels options.

Is this the model or some other model#?

I've gone to the Common Display tasks tab in the AMD Catalyst control center and i only have detect display...None of that other stuff that is in the Common Display Tasks tab.

My Polaroid just broke. So now I'm using my Panasonic 42' Smart LED tv. It is still doing the same thing. I went to standard view and there is no option saying more in desktops and displays. I have no options of overscanning or anything but detect displays. I can show you a pic.

Polaroid doesn't even turn up a search result on their site for TLAC-02255. But other places selling it show 1080p/60hz. Assuming win7 when you right click your desktop and choose Screen Resolution, what does it show for the monitor? Or what does it show in Catalyst? My is actually the exact product model in both cases with (digital) at the end in screen resolution and also the exact model in flat panel properties in CCC.

One thing, I might try uninstalling the driver and doing a custom install but NOT installing hydravision. I don't have that and maybe that's why you don't get the My Digital panels section. Just another thing to try. I only install the driver and catalyst (IIRC driver is default and can't even be de-selected but hydravision can).

These should be boxes you can check on re-install:
Display Driver ver. 14.10.1006
OpenCL(tm) Driver ver. 10.0.1348.5
Catalyst Control Center
HydraVision

You'd probably see the above four options. Just uncheck hydravision once you are re-installing drivers. But they have to be uninstalled first as I don't think there is a way to just get rid of it once in there without a full uninstall first. I have multiple monitors also so there is no need for this app (a 24in dell at 1920x1200 and a 1680x1050 LG 22in).

http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows%207%20-%2064#amd-catalyst-packages

Not completely sure it isn't just hidden in the hydravision section as I never install it.

Erased the bit about setting the scaling in 8.1 (that was dpi crap not the monitor settings itself). Still think it's in the hydrovision settings but the easy way around that might be uninstall and re-install without it.

Of course smaller probably isn't what you'd want (larger more likely) but that's might be another option you can choose. I'm assuming there is both larger and smaller settings but could be wrong. Or like I said just remove the drivers completely and re-install without hydravision.

I'll try uninstalling all the drivers and see if I may have installed the motherboard drivers wrong and I will throw in your advice and tell you what I come up with.

How do I uninstall drivers....I don't want to do it wrong. Do I go to control panel?

You can try control panel (which usually works) but if not and because many have had issues with TOTAL removal guru3d has an app for it:
http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/display_driver_uninstaller_download.html
That would walk you through it. But first just try a quick uninstall from control panel of the whole AMD app. Catalyst install manager is in the list probably, just choose to unistall it all and reboot, then install it CUSTOM.

Glad you seem to have patience. LOL. Sometimes PC's are a little testy on your nerves 😉

Also these guys have been doing utils for vid card for ages. You can see from the revs and can google the crap out of guru3d ddu. I used to love this guy's rivatuner tools years ago.

http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/latest-catalyst-windows-beta.aspx
Latest beta, but on guru3d they say there is an RC from june2 while the beta was may27 (but page above shows june6)
http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/amd_catalyst_14_6_rc_%2814_200_1004_june_2%29_download.html

http://www.anandtech.com/show/8058/amd-catalyst-146-beta-drivers-now-available-adds-new-eyefinity-functionality-more
Anandtech shows the may27 14.6beta. I think I'd stick with the beta until AMD shows the RC but I'm not saying I don't trust guru3d just that I don't want to go further out on a limb than BETA already...LOL. Note anantech's pics don't show hydravision either so no need for it.

I take it back here is the original at AMD from 2 days ago :)
http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/MobileAPU-RC-Driver.aspx
Says for AMD APU+ up to R7 gpu, but notably NO R9 so again just stick with beta from may 27th or rather june6 dated according to amd beta page above, people on guru3d are even confused about actual dates from the comments on the guru3d page I listed.

From uninstalling the AMD driver? You can't damage anything here with what you're doing with drivers, worst case is a windows re-install so don't worry about hardware damage here. Sadly that is where the only solution I've found came from:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/archive/index.php?t-264236.html
Same issue with the border all around, and re-installing win7 was his fix in the end. He couldn't get hydravision out and CCC working. His run took 32 hours before the decision to re-install win7 I guess. He had the same missing options also and a bit of exasperation going back and forth over why they were missing and how to remove hydravision. Still reading through the thread but skipped to the end to see the result is where you just landed.

12-29-2010, 11:49 AM post shows this.

Does system restore work to a point before AMD drivers were loaded? IF you have that on it should be making restore points along the way with installs/driver updates by default. He didn't mention anything about restore points that I've read so far. Also another poster mentioned his HDTV/HTPC had issues with the card shutting the feature off on an HDCP enabled device (TV I guess). A 22-24in $89 monitor should fix that though, but I really would expect it to work without the hydravision and getting proper options to show up but it may really be that HDTV you have.

If you have to re-install windows here, make restore points along the way past anything that doesn't come with the motherboard (or latest drivers from the MSI's website). I usually install those then make an image so I can just ghost/shadowprotect back in 5-10mins just in case something goes wrong to avoid a total re-install though even that is only 20mins today anyway (or whatever app you use to make system images). I make another before the first apps go in after all the drivers are working and loaded. One more is done after all my basic apps are in that go on every machine in the house (office, winamp, winrar, multipar, imgburn, jdownloader2, altbinz, firefox, chrome, sumatra, handbrake, vlc, plex, playon etc etc). Overkill probably but partly because I have so many apps that go on to each machine and it's a pain to put them all back. I used to sysprep etc them too but not really needed with shadowprotect since it can clone to completely different hardware easily. With 30TB or so in externals that space doesn't matter to me (~65GB for all 3 images, keep a few xp ones also 64/32 that are far smaller, both useful for VMs/testing).

More crap than most need to do (probably only need one basic image after drivers), but I guess I'm just trying to save you from borking your install and having to re-do the whole thing. Just a thought.

I have encountered the exact problems.. I started to panicked without reason  then I tried your solution, and it works.. thanks a lot..
