screen flashed, icons moved to left, and font now looks funny.

One day my screen suddenly flashed on my desktop PC running XP and then when I closed the program I was using I noticed all my icons on my desktop had moved to the far left. Then when I open Windows Explorer and other software, my font looks funny, almost like when u print with a printer or fax machine that is almost out of ink. I also can no longer load aerial imagery in one of my programs. Any ideas?

check the display properties color and resolution. It look to me it using 256 color or something.
