So I've had my system for a few years now, built it almost 3 years ago and its been working fine. Recently(the past few weeks) whenever I play a game, the screen frequently flickers and then goes black for a few seconds before returning. I can still hear the audio and inputs still work just fine, but I can't see anything.
I play Dota 2, so it's not a very demanding game. It seems to happen less when I reduce the refresh rate to 60 Hz, but it still does happen occasionally. Here are my specs:
CPU: Intel Core i5 8600k
Motherboard: ASRock B360 Pro
RAM: 8 GB Patriot Signature DDR4 + 8 GB Patriot Viper DDR4 (I know not the best idea to mix ram but I needed more)
PSU: Corsair 550W
GPU: XFX XXX RX 580 8 GB
Monitor: Acer XFA240 - 24 in 144 Hz 1080p TN panel

That should cover all the major/relevant components.
Any help is much appreciated.

Update: I have found that the flickering is due to the GPU overheating - however seeing as nothing has changed in the past few years I'm unsure why it is overheating. It reaches 85 degrees Celsius easily running just Dota, and once it starts hitting upper 80s and nearly 90, the display will flicker and cut for a bit.
