Screen flickering...

I just loaded Windows XP onto my Gateway 1400 and the driver updates from
the Gateway website and notice...even before I loaded the drivers...that the
display screen intermittently flickers. There is no software on the machine
except XP, I don't have anything open and it just ...flickers. Anyone else
have this problem or know of a solution?

Thanks,
Michael

Does the system have the correct drivers to match the graphics card? Many
drivers are not included on the basic XP CD, and you have to track them down to
install them.

Check the monitor refresh frequency. The usual default is 60Hz, which flickers
a lot. 70Hz is much better. Even better is a higher refresh rate, subject to
the limits of the monitor specifications... Ben Myers

Thanks for replying Ben. The drivers are the ones from the Gateway site
usign the GW Recovery Program. It flickers the same before and after
installation. The only refresh rate available is 60Hz.

If the only available refresh rate is 60Hz, then the monitor type is probably
"Unknown" in the Display control panel. Configure the monitor, possibly as
Plug and Play or using an INF file available for download from the monitor
manufacturer. What type of monitor is it?
