Dear All,

Just got the Asus Strix 970 for my rig and the moment i plugged my Dell S2440L via HDMI it starts to flicker and randomly blacks out, I tried with my tv monitor which is 32" 60Hz 720p screen via same HDMI Cable and have no problem with that with this rig...

I have updated to latest Drivers for both Monitor and GPU but no luck...

Is it monitor problem? but when I had my Intel Graphics 4600 installed before there was no such problem.

I can't RMA my card, so please help!

Solution

You might have to switch the HDMI cable. This happened to me a few years ago and I have duel monitors. It only bugged out on the one screen and had to be rebooted.
Are you able to re-test your monitor with another device? That's the quickest way to see if it's a monitor problem. And it's good to eliminate it as a suspect before struggling with other settings.

How long before it blacks out? If you have time, I'd recommend you check out the monitor's settings and your display settings while connected. (Windows, I presume?)

Have you got any other HDMI ports on your card and does the cable feel loose at all, it may be a bad connection.

Secondly make sure the Gpu is properly seated in the pice slot.

If that doesn't work, if you can connect your card via DVI and see if you get a picture at all.

Its now showing 48 C idle and fans are not running yet and with 50% fan speed it got back to 34 C within minute,

one more thing, i touched the HDMI cable to my cheek it gave a quite a pinching shock, but now somehow it stabled the monitor after my shock therapy....

I guess the power outlet is not grounded, can this be the cause for monitor flicker??

No, it has a single HDMI port, however it did not have any problem when plugged into my 32" inch TV monitor FYI, also just tested the cable port it, gives a minor 9V shock when touched and got the problem fixed when plugged back again! Strange!!!

bro thanks for the rapid reply, the problem seemed to have solved by itself after I made skin contact with the HDMI port from monitor end took a minor 9V shock and put back in the cable, the flickering gone and no more black outs as well.

Bro, thanks for the info, I guess i have to, but its pretty strange after getting the minor shock from the already running HDMI cable got the problem fixed!

tested on different power outlet, now the flickering gone but still blacks out now and then but to a very minimum, but may be it's because of the sub-standard 1.3a generic HDMI cable I use it with. Will definitely gonna try with quality HDMI cable (read 1.4 HDMI standard) soon!

WOW! didn't know the power outlet grounding could cause this much of problem for display flickering and power shortage, im relieved a lot since it turned out to be faulty power line case. My gpu works great with all the games and will definitely update soon on this!

Thanks again guys!
