I have an xfx r9 280x and i just started to overclock it and i was getting great improvements in unigine Heaven. Everything was safe and stable. When i start some games the loading screens flicker but the actual game runs perfectly fine. Im wondering if this is still too high of an OC even though the actual game runs very stable. The stock speeds were 1000 mhz core clock and 1500 mhz memory. I got it too 1150 core clock and 1700 memory and anything after that it was unstable and crashed my unigine so thats the highest i achieved with improvement. Also when it used to be at stock speeds its idle was 500 mhz core and 1500 mhz memory and now with my OC the idle core is 300 and memory is 150 so maybe its idling in loading screens then ramps up when i get into a game im not sure, just trying to provide any info i have. I've gone down a bit and there is flickering but less. So i figure ill wait for an answer and just keep down-clocking closer to stock until this stops just too know im safe. or if i am safe is there a stop to this Flickering? i have not touched voltage because it is locked in bios on this card.
UPDATE: I put the card back at stock speeds where obviously this problem doesnt happen and i raised the core by 5 mhz so it was at 1005 mhz and it still did this so that leads me to believe maybe it is a refresh rate/monitor/v-sync issue? because the overclock is safe for sure seeing as its only a 5mhz increase. If i am correct anyway.
My monitor is an asus vg248QE and i have the refresh rate set on 120hz
