Screen Geometry

Really interested in replacing my 17" monitor with a 19". I am looking very closely at the NEC FP950. My problem is the only way I can purchase it is over the net, and I am concerned about returning it if the screen geometry doesn't setup with nice square edges. I had a Hitachi 21" for about five days a while back and I could positively not get a good square image from the geometry settings, so I returned it. I also read a review from someone who owned the NEC FP950 and he said he returned the first one for this very reason. He also said the replaced unit was okay, but not perfect. This is something I am very picky about and I am concerned about a mail order company's return policies and not being able to see the monitor before it is purchased. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Is the screen geometry accuracy typically different from monitor to monitor even with the same brand and model? Thanks in advance for your input.

in my experience yes... I've worked at a computer store for a while... every now and then we would get a guy with either amazing sight or really easily irritable, and he would switch his monitor for an exchange... they usually liked the second or third monitor we gave them...

personally, the only deffect I've really seen is this one IBM monitor which I guess had a tube put in the wrong way, because the whole screen was sort of skewed, i.e. it was higher by about 3mm on one end then on the other... I wouldn't have noticed myself, and after that I compared every single monitor we had and sure enough none of them were PERFECTLY alligned - NEC, Sony, Samsung, IBM...(mind you this was a few years ago:)

as for monitors today, I guess I'm either not picky enough or just lucky, most monitors I've owned had a pretty decent square image... I've seen other people's monitor which were 'concave', but most of those issues were fixable...

but to get back to your question, yes, the tubes can vary even with the same batch of same model of same brand of same manufacturer...
