I have a PC that I built myself around 2.5 years ago. Up to this point I have had zero issues with it.
Recently, like over the past couple of weeks, the screen will suddenly go black and the system will lock up, which requires a hard system shut down and reboot to "fix" the problem.
It first started happening when I was playing more graphics heavy games like World of Tanks & World of Warships, then it started happening playing Civilization VI. It was happening frequently.
I opened the PC and noticed it was rather dirty, so I thoroughly cleaned it out. Afterwards, we were able to play the games longer, but the black screen/system freeze still occurred, albeit not nearly as frequently. I even moved the graphics card and memory to different slots in the computer, but still the system still crashes eventually nonetheless.
I ran several system diagnostics checks on the PC, and the results came back as very good overall, with the exception being the memory, where it said I was under performing in the 35th percentile.
There have been no updates on any of the games I mentioned earlier during the time this black screen/system freeze has been occurring, so I know it's not an update issue.
I will repeat that in the 2.5 years that I've had this computer, I've never had these issues on the machine no matter what I've played, including the three afformentioned games, which I was playing up until just a couple of weeks ago when this started happening.
So does anyone have any ideas what's going on or what's causing this?
