While playing games I have experienced a several times a sudden crash (it is not often though) . The screen just go black and monitor says "no video input". The audio is still playing, but it seems only in a certain loop. Will that be because of PSU or more likely a GPU problem? I am planning to buy GeForce GTX 970 and want to solve this firstly.

System Info:
OS: Win 7 Ultimate x64
CPU- AMD FX-8350
GPU- Radeon HD 7850 2GB OC
PSU- OCZ ZT 550W
Motherboard - GIGABYTE 990XA-UD3
RAM - 2x4GB ... planning to plug in another 2 RAMs
HDD - 3,5" 7200RPM 1TB
SSD- Intel 120GB
Case Vent - 12cm
3 USB devices plugged in
1 DVD drive

I have tried:
-Updating drivers

-Running different games and it happens in them too.

-Running FurMark...It was running for 15 minutes and GPU temperature doesnt seem to go above 70`C. But the fan speed was just 55-60%. Shouldnt fan keep temp as low as possible, or its keeping it on those 70`C?

I would appreciate your help. Thank you very much.

"No input video" = no video is coming from the PC. You still have sound since it is connected direct to pc.
This might be due to faulty cable, faulty video card, motherboard or faulty power supply or simply driver issue.

These are different things you may wanna try just to narrow down the possible causes:
1. Make sure connection is firm, common cause of this error could be loose cable.
2. Try connect you cable to other pc.
3. Use different display such as TV.
4. Install the original driver that goes with it (CCC & .net framework). Uninstall the current driver, then install the old one.
5. On gaming, lower down settings, resolution, v-sync on..
6. Remove the card and then replace it firmly in its slot or put into another slot on your motherboard.
7. Could be PSU or Motherboard, if only you can try it in other pc.

Firstly I must thank you for a comprehensive comment.

I must say I totally forgot about Motherboard... as I am now thinking about it, it might actually be the reason. Because the problem started when I purchased CPU, Motherboard and RAMs

I have also experienced few other minor issues: I can not "wake up" PC from a sleep mode.... Sometimes when I boot up a system I dont have windows gadget on my screen and they just dont work.... Then it is this no video input issue. By the way its really a system crash. I mean the audio is playing, but when I press alt+F4 nothing happens.... also I cannot turn off the PC with power button. I just have to turn off the PSU.

The problem is I cant try it on other PC. But from what I am describing would you agree it will probably be motherboard?

Thanks again

Motherboard imo would be my last suspect.

For your other issues:
1. I can not "wake up" PC from a sleep mode = You can set it up under power option
>>Start and type > power options in the search field. Under > Control Panel pick the top result, i.e. > Power Options.

2. "..dont have windows gadget on my screen"
>>Right click or press and hold on an empty area of your desktop, and click/tap on Personalize
>>Towards the bottom left corner, click/tap on the Display link
>> Click/tap on the Make text and other items larger or smaller link.

3. I cannot turn off the PC with power button
You can set it up under power option as show in the item-1 picture.

About the "no input video", if you tried all 1-6, then the suspect could be the graphic card or motherboard.

1. Thanks I switched to never go into sleep mode.
2. I have default setting and havent been changing them. This happens randomly after booting system. Also when I right-click on the screen and I want to select 'Gadgets' it does nothing.

I have tried steps 1-6 and it is still happening. But do you think for all of those issues might be the reason bad motherboard? They really started happening after I purchased it. I had GPU for about a year and never had a problem with it.... I will probably return the motherboard to shop and see if it will still happen after I will have a new one.

Thank you again, you have been really helpful :)

i have exactly the same problem on an asus rog striker platinum gtx 760 and i tried the vcard on friend's pc with psu evga 600 B it worked 2 days entirely under gaming, but in my pc it doesnt work more than 3 mins under almost the same conditions, the only differences between our pcs are the mobos he has an asus maximus formula pci-e 3.0 and i have an intel dh61ww pci-e 2.0 with psu evga 700 B yeah almost the same but higher psu, we use demanding games such as gta v max settings so im thinking its the new psu i just bought 5 days ago is failing or just mobo cant handle the card somehow and i forgot to say he has vcard asus 660 ti which i tested in my pc with the evga 700 B psu and it worked all the day too so im more confused about psu problem or mobo problem.

wowowo guys i tested stressing my gpu and my psu in my friends asus maximus formula and it happens there too so definetly a faulty psu because on hes 600 B didnt happen after hours of stress the 700 b psu goes no signal input after 3 to 5 mins stress.

Asus gtx760 striker consumes 200-250 or more depending on overclocking,... your psu is 700B, 700 watts should be enough for the whole system. It's bronze but in lower category in the psu tier (quality of components, features, 80+ efficiency, etc.) so I thought it's psu. Unfortunately to make sure, it would take a lot of trials to identify the culprit.

i just asked for RMA and it fixed all my problems im playing gta v max settings and battlefield 1 right now for a week about 16/7 no problems.

in fact it was a faulty psu it had a electric buzzing sound which indicate a depower issue with the psu i have my new one with same sound and a tic sound but its working fine so im not going for RMA till it fails.

i hope you guys can help me out with this,
when i game my screen sometimes freezes but not to often, but when i play sid meier's civ 5 i get it a few times a day
i tried to reinstall drivers, now i get them a little less but the black screen is followed by a no input notification on my monitor.

Thread posted 2014.. people still responding with same issue in 2018. What does that tell you.

This is probably "the" singularly most difficult to resolve bug in the pc universe. I've now had this intermittent issue across 6 different systems, all running brand new hardware, combinations of intel+Nv+Amd, using just Int+Nv Mobo+ Nv Gpu and Amd Cpu/Mobo/Gpu and so forth. Tried motherboards from msi, asus, gigabyte as well as various gpus across similar manufacturers.

Noone knows the answer. Noone has ever fully resolved this. Neither Nv nor Amd know what the cause is or how to fix it. It isn't drivers, it isn't hardware specific. At best it seems to be caused by aspects of anti virus switching on, ie AV running a scan or real time protection systems re initiailising after being disabled. Wether it's specifically caused by this.. well, not having any av or firewall installed can see the same issue occuring. On brand new systems, old systems, canabalised systems, in games after patching a specific patch update, sometimes it can be tied to specific windows updates. ie One of the first Win8 updates was the start of this issue for me, prior to it, I'd never seen the issue ever occur in over a decade of gaming.

Now it's been going on intermittently for nearly a decade and I've yet to see an answer that actually fixes it.

I've seen this error msg during video playback.
During gaming sessions: Civ 5+6
Ark
Various Mass Effect games.
In the majority with Dx12 games. But it also occurred with 11.1 and previously 9.0.

Well, I guess i gotta following this thread !
Just got the same problem today after updating my driver to 398.36. The problem still persist after I have rolled back to my previous driver (with DDU)
