When i am playing a moderately demanding game, the screen will suddenly flash green then go dark and my pc will be rendered unresponsive until i force restart it.

I have tried updating my graphics card drivers to no avail and tried playing with every other application shut down.

RX480
i7 7700k
16 gb ram
games are on a 1 tb hard drive

Have you checked Windows Event Viewer and see if anything is in there?

The screen flashing green leads me to think its a graphics card issue. Dying cards can cause instability like this, although its usually more like red/green pixels or lines. Can you borrow another GPU to try in your computer?

Unfortunately, I am not able to test with other graphics cards. I may be in the market for a new one soon, as my rx 480 is becoming a bit dated and might be glitching out.

I checked in events viewer and the only errors were under applications and were these:
