Question screen goes mostly black. Bad cable? or other component?

sometimes my laptop screen goes black with some flickering colors on a vertical line on the left. (see pics)
It never does this right away on startup, seems random, stays like the pics for a while, flickers pack and forth desplaying normal screen and black with colors on the left. Folding display angle only occasionally fixes it, tapping or shaking the whole device sometimes fixes it.
The screen also has several dead pixels or pixel clusters.

If you connect to an external display, do you have any issues?

If not, you're looking at either the display, or the cable, potentially elements of both.
Going black, would likely suggest the cable, if shaking or tapping it can resurrect it on occasion. The dead pixels likely sit with the display itself.
