Question Screen is black but can see display with flashlight?

Hi.

I have a MSI GT70 Dominator and the screen isnt backlit, making it appear off. But if I shine a flashlight on the screen, I can see the display. An eternal monitor works fine so I think an LED is the problem? Does this mean I have to replace the whole screen or is there an LED or something that can be switched instead?

Thank you for any help!

well you can check up youtube on how to repair led backlight (basily u dissasemle whole lcd panel, replace white led strips and put it back together)
I'm not sure how different laptop brands vary on internal setup, so you think the issue would be an led strip along the edge of the screen? Or is it possible that it's a backlight inverter? A YT video was switching that piece out and wasn't sure how to pinpoint the issue I'm having. Thanks for your thoughts!

led panels doesnt have inverter, that was used before led (for ccfl cathode tube backlit)
your panel is led, voltage goes directly from gpu/mobo over lvds, no conversion (inverter) needed

led panel has board on it (inverter u talk about is integrated on it)
if that "inverter" (board) is dead, u may actually need new screen
