Screen keeps going out.

My buddy told me to ask you guys what you think is up with my computer. While playing a game the screen just freezes over and usually turns into a different color. Or the video d/c's from the monitor and it's completely unreponsive. He thinks my video card is dying, I thought I had a virus from a recent downloadn or something. I'm running windows 7 and have 550ti graphics card. Thanks in advance for your help!

Definitely sounds like a problem with your video card, try lowering your overclock(if you have one) or even underclocking your video card, it may also be your psu not being able to supply enough power to your psu, whats psu do you have?
