Screen power light flashing during system boot

Hi everyone! I have a problem regarding system boot. I am using an external GPU from Nvidia (MSI GTX 680) and recently upgraded my operating system to Windows 10 (updated the GPU drivers as well). Shortly thereafter I started to have some issues with my screen, particularly during boot time.

What happens is that my monitor (iiyama ProLite E2208HDS) either does not receive a signal (displays a yellow power light) or keeps flashing the blue power button with a constant frequency and not showing anything on screen (everything is black, no cursor). After some time everything is fine, although the screen slowly lightens up instead of being bright immediately. At first it continued happening for a few seconds every time I was booting the system up, currently it exceeds to almost 10 minutes.

Things I have tried already:
- changing power/display cables
- using different ports to connect my graphics card
- switching screens (other monitors do not even receive a signal/don't flash)
- changing GPU drivers

Things I didn't try:
- upgrading to a new BIOS version
- swapping graphics cards because I only have one and my motherboard does not have a GPU

I know that my screen might be dying (I have been using it extensively for about 5 years now), but I hoped buying a new screen would not be necessary. I would like to add I didn't have any problems with my graphics card before and it is relatively new (didn't overclock it either).

Is there any way to fix this? I appreciate every bit of help, thanks in advance!

1| See if you can source a monitor from a friend to troubleshoot your system for a few days
2| I would ask you to pass on your full system specs
3| Perhaps it's a good idea to update your BIOS right about now
4| Depending on your system specs I would try and hunt for info on whether they are Windows 10 compatible
5| When you speak of updated the GPU drivers, did you perform a clean install of your drivers after downloading your drivers from nvidia's driver download page?
6| and when you say upgrade did you install windows from an older version?
7| try a sfc / scannow procedure and see if the issue is alleviated
