Screen replacement issues

Hi! My laptop screen recently stopped working, so I've been looking to get it repaired. Problem is, none of the screens I try will display anything. In fact, the few external monitors I've tried don't work either. The only way I can get it to work is by hooking it to my tv via hdmi.

I have no clue what could be causing this problem, or why my tv is the only screen that will work. Please help!

So wait, hdmi to monitor doesn't show anything, but hdmi to tv is ok? Technically a tv is a monitor with speakers, nothing more.
