Screen resolution is different to in game

So i have my pc connected to my sony bravia and im pushing out 1920x1080 on the desktop but when i go into games it will only let me go up to 1366x768 and its reallly annoying. cos i wana watch films at the resolution too and all the dvds i try and play will only run at 1366x768 as well.
what am i doing wrong?

I have had that before. Either reinstall your drivers or update them, that should fix the problem. The screen would display at 1080p but once i load a game the game settings would only reach a lower resolution. Updating the drivers fixed it for me.

i found the problem on another post its cos im going from hdmi to vga through an adaptor when my tv has hdmi ports thnx anyway

no my gpu has a hdmi port i just dont have a hdmi cable cos im still on vga screens

Strange that the TV vendors didn't supply you with a cable. Anyway, you can buy one for cheap.
