Screen resolution PROBLEM!!

Hello guys, need a little help. My VGA cable can support a resolution from 800x600 to 2560x1600 but my monitor can only support up to 1280x1024. Sometimes when i open/play games the resolution changes to a non supporting one for my monitor! How can i fix it?

VGA cable? What GPU are you using and what type of monitor? Try using an DVI or HDMI or if possible a DP cable.

I have a gtx 750 ti but my monitor only supports VGA
