Screen size effect fps?

I am a bit confused. I am new to gaming on pc. I have my computer hooked up to a plasma 50 inch. Does the screen size affect my gaming performance? For example can I go to a higher resolution on a smaller monitor? Does the screen size affect the resolution is the main question I guess.

I try pushing my resolution past 1080 and I lose fps. But on a smaller monitor I don't. Now I do know that my TV only goes up to 1080, so I use a program to boost the resolution which in turn eats alot of gpu power. .. Where as the monitor has a higher natural resolution.

So back to the question. Does screen size affect resolution and how much gpu power it needs?

Screen size of monitors are generally correlated with resolution, so smaller monitors have smaller resolutions. This isn't always the case, as you find some laptop resolutions (e.g. Apple macbook) have very high resolutions. The "standard" is 1920 by 1080, the 1080p standard. Monitors over 24" generally start to have higher resolutions, e.g. Dell have several 27" with 2560 x 1440. What will affect your frame rate is not the actual size of the screen but the resolution of the screen as the resolution determines the number of pixels that have to be calculated and simply put- the more of them there are, the harder your graphics card has to work!

The fps you get will depend on the resolution your monitor is running, something like 1920x1080. (1080p)
The physical size of your screen makes no difference and is not related to how many pixels are drawn onto the screen.

higher resolution = lower fps
bigger screen = no effect

for example:

24 inch 1920x1080 screen is the same fps as a 50 inch 1920x1080 screen
24 inch 1920x1080 screen gives you less fps than a 50 inch 1280x720 screen

if the resolution is lower, you get more fps, regardless of the size of your screen.

So the fact that is it will push for example 2160p onto a 50 inch and a 27 inch using the same amount of gpu power? So if my card can handle 2160p on a monitor it can handle that on a 120 inch TV? Given that the TV can go that high in resolution?

A side note, the down sampling. Does the size of the monitor there matter or is it to same? For my plasma I have to down sample as my max res is 1080

as long as the aspect ratio is the same, you should be completely fine
