I had ubuntu on my pc and wanted to switch to windows 8.1 pro. I was installing windows with a flash drive that I booted to from the bios when it asked to restart. After it restarted I came back to the screen where you press del to enter bios but it was froze there. If I remove the 500 gb wd blue hard drive I can load into the bios fine. I took the drive and reformatted it on another computer and came back to the same problem. I also have tried removing the cmos battery from the motherboard and the putting it back. Not sure where to go from here, any help would be very appreciated.

The sata drive was already in AHCI mode but I did disable fast boot. Still stuck at the same screen sadly.

Thanks for all the quick replies. csm was already enabled and it doesn't give me the option to disable secure boot. The only option is choose the OS Type which I have 2 options, "Windows" and "Other OS'. I am using an asus mobo. Changing between Windows and Other OS didn't help.

Oh, just to be clear

You mean that the boot options appear but when you choose one of them, the screen stays black?

Edit: Try pressing esc key when powering on your pc and see if the boot options appear to experiment with

Windows never fully installed. I used another computer to reformat the hard drive. If the hard drive is plugged in I can only get to this screen http://imgur.com/fXGVjhC This screen is first and only thing to show up. If I don't have the hard drive plugged into the computer (the only drive) I can load into the bios and look at stuff but the hard drive doesnt show up because it isnt plugged in.

Edit: I don't have a cd drive which is why I used the usb to boot it. It worked to install ubuntu. But now I can't do anything while the hard drive is plugged in during powering on.

1.No problem, it could be your hard drive failed on you, but you can test it on another computer through a smart test

2.Unplug your usb drive and try booting

3.Enable usb legacy support in your bios if you have it

Well, thanks again. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. Pretty sure the hard drive failed but I have 2 year warranty.
