i got another 980ti incoming after a week.

what are my options...
screen tearing in gta5,doom, farcry 4

specs are as follows:
7700k, 16gb ram vengeance, 980ti golden edition, zm1250 psu....air conditioned room temp 20C 24hrs

Solution
And the monitor is set to 60Hz? And Vsync on? There is no way you have tearing then. Stuttering, but not tearing. If you meant stuttering and lagging, then that's normal at 40fps on a 60Hz monitor.

And if your vsync limits you to 30fps either you set that in the game or your monitor is not set to 60.

Yeah that tearing is expected with a 980ti running 4k. Currently, even a gtx 1080 can barely do 4k consistently. You should be ok once you get the other 980ti and put them in SLI. This will give you more power than a 1080ti.

Also vsync may help with tearing but will add large amounts of stutter and input lag, I don't recommend it. Just wait until you get the second card otherwise you may need gsync

thelivingflesh: as applenoob indicated, the 980ti isn't quite powerful enough for 4k. With V-sync, if your graphics card can't keep up and display your native refresh, the refresh rate gets cut to half native and displays each image twice as long to gap-fill.

hello, thanks for all the answers, i played andromeda today, if i turn the vsync off i get around 40fps with tearing, if i turn it on then i get 27-30fps without tearing....i am using a display port cable. what is the solution here

1> get another card 980ti
2> get the gsync monitor but cut out on the card
3> you got another solution?

i got 2 cards for 700$ that also on monthly installments of 3 months so yeah the price is fine. cheapest 1080 here is 700$. what i wanted was to reduce the tearing effect. monitor gives 60fps if i turn down the settings but i want 4k and max possible settings just want to get rid of the tearing....

how do i do that while keeping fps around 40. that was the original question.
btw a friend of mine has 295x2 hes getting more than what i am getting. paid 500$ for his card.

I told you. And check the video.
You need to enable DP 1.2 and use DP cable then check your display settings as I mentioned in detail, make sure it's set to 60Hz.

You only get tearing if the fps you get are above what your monitor can handle. Therefore your monitor is locked at 30fps.

Do what I said, then set Vsync on and you will have 40fps no tearing. Same applies when you have both cards and run 60+ fps. You will be locked at 60fps with no tearing.
