[SOLVED] Screen tearing on a 144hz monitor with 150-160 fps ?

My question is, will the screen tearing be very noticeable if I get 150-160 fps on my monitor? I don't want to use Vsync

I've got a 144hz 1440p monitor (LG 27GL850) and I've been wondering if I should buy the RTX 3070 but I'm scared I will get screen tearing. With my current GPU (RTX 2070) I get around 110-120 in most AAA games and the RTX 3070 will probably give me more than 144 fps.

Should I upgrade and not worry about the screen tearing or stay with my current build?

I currently use a 3080 (previously 2080S) running 1440p 144Hz. My games are setup to get anything over 120/130 to 180+FPS. I don’t notice any screen tearing and actually have G-Sync switched off. I also have a laptop That is 1080p 144Hz and try to setup games to run at 100+ FPS and again never notice tearing. When I have used 60/75Hz screens for gaming tearing has alway been noticeable. I don’t expect you to have any problems with tearing on a 144Hz monitor.

What do you mean "My games are setup to get anything over 120/130 to 180+FPS ", you mean you've changed the ingame graphical settings to get that FPS, right? But what about games where even if you max out all of the settings you will still get above 144 fps ? I'm just extra curious beacuse you've already given me the answer I've been looking for. Can I like undervolt the cpu or something to get the fps I want ? (Lower the fps)

I change game settings to change the priority between FPS and game visuals. 144fps at 1440p is very demanding in some games. For example COD MW multiplayer with a 3080 will average about 100fps (from memory) if running max settings with ray tracing on. If I tweak a few settings I can get over 120-130 average still with Ray Tracing on and no noticeable difference in visuals. Other games I can max settings and still keep over 144fps.

I would not worry about undervolting. Undervolting only improves performance if the system is hitting thermal limits (too hot). This is why it’s common on gaming laptops that struggle with cooling. In a desktop with a good cpu cooler and gpu cooler it should not be needed.
