screen tearing on my samsung monitor, do I have to buy a monitor that's more than 60 hz?

I just built my system, with a gtx 770 gpu and it will tear during borderlands and valiant hearts. It will even do it sometimes in far cry 3. Do I have to buy a better monitor? The screen is hooked via hdmi cable. Do you think a dvi cable would work better?
