Hi, I built a PC just over a year ago
Specs- GTX 1070, Intel i5 6600k, 16GB DDR4 RAM.
And I am using my monitor from my old pc- AOC e2343F (I think i remember it used to happen on that pc but im not 100%)

Basically when i am playing a game if i dont turn Vsync on i get screen tearing, it can vary how bad it is but to my recollection it happens on basically every game.
Is this a monitor problem? any help would be massively appreciated.

Solution
This is entirely what V-Sync is for, if the render speed is different to the refresh rate (without having a G-Sync monitor) then you WILL get screen tearing.

Oh, thanks, so a G-sync monitor will fix the problem? is there any real disadvantage when using V-sync?

G-sync monitors can adjust to match the gpu frame draws, which will essentially fix the problem.
V-Sync will introduce a small amount of input lag, as the screen is waiting for the full frame before updating - although it's only really an issue for super-competitive situations. You are also locked to the refresh rate of the monitor, which can be 60hz all the way up to 240hz depending on the model (again the top end is for competitive level gaming)

Ahh thank you, My friend has an Acer G227HQL which from what I can see isnt a G-sync but he doesnt get the screen tearing when playing without Vsync enabled?

My guess would be that his computer is not capable of exceeding the monitors refresh rate?

Makes sense his monitor must have higher than 60hz, thank you very much for your help i really appreciate it.
