Hello community,
I'm having a problem with my new monitor on my new PC.
So far everything runs without problems, but recently I found out that I have a tearing problem with games. First I thought its just Skyrim, but found out that Witcher 2 etc. are all doing the same problem, tearing in the lower half of the monitor.
At first I had my PC via HDMI connected, but as my graphic card (Sapphire Nitro Radeon R9 380X) has only one HDMI port and I want to connect my TV with HDMI to, I thought I have to use either DVI or Displayport cable.
There came a HDMI to DVI cable with the monitor so I tried using that, since then I had the tearing problem. I thought it might be a problem with the cable, so I bought a Displayport cable on amazon, got delivered to day and tested with anticipation just to find out that nothing changed. Btw its no true Displayport cable, as my monitor only has two HDMI ports and a VGA one.
I cant figure this out. As IT support I had a lot of problems and also solved really weird stuff already, but this one... I really have no clue on this. If I'd use a adapter and have the problem, I'd kinda understand. But Displayport to HDMI should really work without problems as both is a digital signal. I see no reason why this and other cables should end up in tearing issues and just HDMI cable works wonders...
I saw on different websites that people mentioned screen tearing has nothing to do with the cables, but I mean, HDMI cable works, others doesn't, there must be a problem with the cables or the ports, but I tested both HDMI ports on the monitor (and both work fine with HDMI cable) and all ports on the graphic card (2x DVI, 1 DisplayPort and 1 HDMI).
btw my monitor is a 24" ASUS LED monitor, running with 1920x1080 and 60Hz
UPDATE:
I was able to kinda solve the problem. Instead of buying a new cable i just bought a HDMI - Display Port adapter. Tried both monitors and both HDMI cables with the adapter in both cases it worked fine.
So the adapter works good with the HDMI cables.
My only assumption can be that all cables beside HDMI were crappy or the monitor just isn't compatible with other cables besides HDMI...
Has someone any idea what might be the problem here and how to solve it?
Any help appreciated!
Thanks in advance
