Screen tearing :(

So i have screen tearing. From what i understand screen tearing is when the graphics card is putting out more frames then the monitor can take. If i can somehow change how many frames the card puts out, wouldn't it be fixed? If anyone knows how to do this tell me. Thanks
Specs are
8320 (non overclocked)
hyper 212 evo
evga 760 sc
and thats all i know....

Enable vertical sync in game or under nvidia control panel. It syncs frames with refresh rate
