Question Scroll wheel problem with CAD program in Windows 10.

I have belatedly installed Windows 10 in my own computer for the first time and am familiarising myself with the UI. So far I've come across two glitches, both having to do with my >20-year-old electronics CAD program Circuit Maker 2000 (CM2000).

The first issue is that the mouse scroll wheel doesn't work with CM2000. This was the case with Win 7 too and I adapted to it by installing KatMouse. KatMouse disables the scroll wheel in some programs but it has an exclusion list to which those (few) programs can be added. With Windows 10 however, KatMouse disables scrolling of the alphabetical programs list that appears when the start button is pressed. I don't know which executable to enter in KatMouse's exclusion list to solve this - if there is one.

WizMouse works with CM2000 too and does not interfere with scrolling the programs list. But it prevents zooming with Alt+wheel in some other programs such as PDF readers and has no provision to exclude those programs.

The second issue is that, when I save a design in the PCB design section of CM2000, it brings up an error message saying "Error writing file: xxxx. Access is denied" where xxxx stands for the file name and path. I have to click OK to proceed. But the file and changes to an existing file are saved. Installing the program as Administrator makes no difference. So far I haven't come across any problem with the circuit design and simulation sections of the CAD program.

I have newer and more advanced CAD programs but I love the way CM2000 works, especially the PCB design section (reminds me of Amiga) and I use it all the time. Thoughts and suggestions will be much appreciated.

In instances when the scroll wheel doesn't work, for example in PDF's, I use Ctrl & + which is for zooming in and conversely Ctrl & - is zoom out. Please mention the version(not edition) of Windows 10. Have you tried installing the apps you've worked with on Windows 7 in compatibility mode while on Windows 10? Right click installer>Properties>Compatibility Tab>Windows 7(from drop down menu).

I have Windows 7 in a 50GB partition on my HDD for use "just in case" and I'm using it right now. Win10 is on an SSD. I'll follow up when I'm on it later.
I use Ctrl&+/- all the time.
I've known about Compatibility mode for years and have used it in the past, but it never occurred to me in the present situation. Thanks for the heads-up. I'll try it when I'm in Win10.
